First Hermanubis: Initiation
Director: Michael Alexander Morris, Experimental, USA, 40 min
First Hermanubis is the first installment of a planned longer series of films using the figure of Hermanubis, a Hellenistic-Egyptian deity combining Hermes and Anubis, as a starting point for thinking about hybridized identities, magic and the occult. This first episode focuses on the story of my family, Greeks who came to the USA from Turkey in the early 20th Century, my relationship to growing up in the Greek Orthodox Church, self-initiation into magic, and relocation to Cairo, Egypt.
